The Second Annual Fair Shake was held on June 23, 2005 at CineSpace in Hollywood.
The evening was hosted by the Advisory Board of WCLP and MC’ed by the hilarious Mo Collins of MADtv fame.
The event was created by the Board to introduce young professionals to the work of WCLP and to honor “unsung heroes” who are making a difference in the lives of the poor.
This years honorees were both unsung (neither had ever been acknowledged for the work they are doing) and definitely heroes.
Dr. Miriam Cremer, founded BasicHealth: El Salvador while doing her residency at USC.
This non-profit organization leads biannual medical delegations to El Salvador to provide free health care.
Feature film producer Barri Evins, founded From the Heart, a literacy organization which has put books into the hands of 40,000 kids and built 150 libraries in Head Start Centers in the last 10 years.
The Third Annual Fair Shake is planned for June 8, 2006. For information about joining the Advisory Board of the Western Center on Law & Poverty or about the Fair Shake, please contact Christian Lebano at clebano@wclp.org or call 213/487-7211 x16. |
