On October 13, 2011 Congressman McGovern asked his colleagues to join him as cosignatories on a letter to the Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, urging them to safeguard the nation’s anti-hunger and anti-poverty programs from budget cuts. The letter argues that in the past, deficit reduction recommendations have protected programs and have advocated policies that don’t increase poverty or hunger. Western Center joined the Food Research and Action Center, the California Association of Food Banks, and local anti-hunger advocates to request that the California Congressional delegation sign onto the letter.
