Capitol Action Highlights Anti-Hunger Legislation

Wednesday, September 21st, the state's capitol will be filled with organge to commemorate national Hunger Action Month and call attention to the anti-hunger legislation sitting on Governor Brown's desk. 


 

Wednesday, September 21st, the state's capitol will be filled with organge to commemorate national Hunger Action Month and call attention to the anti-hunger legislation sitting on Governor Brown's desk. 
 
The last day to pass legislation off the floor of either house this year was Friday, September 9, 2011.  Join us in commemorating Hunger Action Month by wearing orange and taking action!
 
2011 Anti-hunger Legislation Waiting for Governor's Signature:
 
 
SB 43(Liu) This bill removes mandatory requirements in the CalFresh Employment and Training (E&T) Program when the state or a sub-region is federally determined to have a work surplus. 
 
AB 6 (Fuentes) This bill adopts simplified, semi-annual reporting for CalWORKs and CalFresh, eliminates finger imaging for CalFresh and adopts the CalFresh ‘Heat & Eat’ Federal option to simplify and expand use of the standard utility allowance in the CalFresh program. 
 
AB 69(Beall) This bill would require the State Department of Social Services to seek a demonstration project to use information maintained by the Social Security Administration about social security benefit recipients to facilitate enrollment of eligible recipients into the CalFresh program.
   
AB 138(Beall) This bill would require the California Department of Aging to report data from the Elder Economic Security Standard Index (Elder Index), for each service area included in the state plan.
                                                                            
AB 152(Fuentes) This bill establishes a tax credit for California agricultural products donated to food banks, limits food purchased through the Emergency Food Assistance Program to only be purchased locally and directs the Department of Public Health to seek funding to promote healthy eating.
 
AB 402(Skinner) This bill would authorize a school district or a county superintendent of schools to work with the county social services agency to develop a fast track from a School Meal program application to a CalFresh program application.

AB 581(John A. Pérez)  This bill would create the California Healthy Food Financing Initiative for the purpose of expanding access to healthy foods in underserved communities.
