Governor Continues to Make Misleading Statements
Not much action today on the budget front and there was minimal work on the weekend. A Sunday meeting ended with no apparent progress. Neither the Senate or the Assembly are scheduled to have floor session until Thursday though that could change. Tomorrow WCLP, the County Welfare Diurector's and the County Supervisors Association of California are holding a joint press availability to point out the truth about the myths the Governor is peddling. Please find attached a piece challenging the Governor's myths from CWDA. We have also attached WCLP's latest budget letter opposing the CalWORKs proposals.
The Governor kept up his very misleading public campaign attempting to create momentum for his "reforms" in CalWORKs and In-Home Supportive Services. Over the weekend the Governor penned an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times that argued that CalWORKs and IHSS programs are rife with fraud. Here is a link to the Governor's piece.

Today the Governor met with the District Attorneys, Secretary Kim Belshe and others to tout finger imaging as the cure for fraud in social service programs. The Governor is proposing to reinstate finger imaging and expand it to IHSS even after the Budget Conference Committee eliminated all funding for the program, citing its wasteful nature.
